I was in unfamiliar lands, in harsh conditions, in a vastness of winter-white in all directions; around, above, and below. Within the concept of distance with each resilient step forward from the inner-strength within, I felt the duality of the seemingly infinite, immeasurable, and impenetrable, yet also simultaneously the finite, measurable, and revealing.
I began to wonder as I wandered the snowbanks with apprehension, if I might just disappear into a drift, one maybe without dimension, and then perhaps float away to a plane, where earth and sky maybe exist as one in the same. Were it not for the crunch below, of each continued and be-labored step through thickening snow, while feeling weighted down with the hardships I carry in tow, my grounding would indeed be questionable – indeed so vaguely familiar to aspects of my own inner terrain, keeping me tethered to burdens and hard paths of the patterned same, rather than released and resilient to show the courage to seek new abundance to regain, all through determination toward a higher dimension within to sow.
Slowly as I penetrated the distance, a snowbank seemed to start to stir and come alive – the form of a seemingly solitary being began to take shape in the white. The winter bison, the winter soldier within my dreams, emerges from the air in front of me. With strong low sweeping motions of its massive head and horns, often nearly disappearing into the snowbank, its determination and inner-strength to overcome hardships and challenging times reveals fresh abundance.
As the great bull enjoyed new sustenance with its grunts of grateful delight, the earth-sky plane gradually gave way again to another great form emerging into view, and then another, and another, and so on, until five were present – each performing the same actions and revealing even more abundance in what seemed a void of life. What was at first a seemingly isolated and lonely bison, perhaps an outsider or a misfit, giving the message to have courage to stay true to self during harsh times, suddenly transformed into a herd, giving the additional message to re-connect with the like-minded to have more meaningful connections in life, with power in numbers, and to share in our community.” ~ Jack Mountain
