One Season Too Many
"The foliage has been losing its freshness through the month of August, and here and there a yellow leaf shows itself like the first gray hair amidst the locks of a beauty who has seen one season too many." ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes
At the end of August, I started my annual adventure of chasing Arizona autumnal colors near the Grand Canyon's North Rim. Just a few miles outside the park boundary, as I explored some unmarked roads, I discovered this old ranch house and cattle pen, hidden within the conifers and aspens of the forest. While evidence in the area suggested this may have seen some occasional usage in recent past years, it did not seem like it was in use anymore, as the forest was reclaiming the area in bits and pieces. Clearly, this ranch house in the beginning of Autumn, had seen at least one season too many.
