"And the wind full of wantonness
Woos like a lover
The young Aspen trees
Till they tremble all over."
~ Thomas Moore

Photographed near the Grand Canyon's North Rim.

Quaking aspen is a small to medium-sized, fast-growing, and short-lived tree. It grows singly and in multi-stemmed clones. Although individual ramets of a clone may be short lived, the clone itself may be thousands of years old, and longer lived than the oldest giant sequoia.
