Atmospheric Value
“For me, a landscape does not exist in its own right, since its appearance changes at every moment; but the surrounding atmosphere brings it to life - the light and the air which vary continually. For me, it is only the surrounding atmosphere which gives subjects their true value.” ~ Claude Monet
I spent a morning on a boat at Canyon Lake, looking to capture images of Big Horn sheep coming down to the water for summer relief, but the temperature was unusually nice and it was raining all morning, so there was little need for the sheep to wander away from their comforts. However being the opportunist I found plenty of beautiful images to capture.
This image most any other time would probably not have been interesting at all, but the pouring rain and overcast day provided a soft lighting and color that really contributed to the beauty of the landscape, thus at this particular moment, the surrounding atmosphere is what made the image come together.
