Veil Of The Mist

Veil Of The Mist

“Were I called on to define, very briefly, the term art, I should call it "the Reproduction of what the senses perceive in nature through the veil of the mist” ~ Edgar Allan Poe

Bridalveil Falls is barely visible as it peeks through the Cathedral Rock mountain mist as stormy clouds rolled through. I found it appropriate to shoot Bridalveil Falls through its own veil. Later in post-processing I created this alternate surreal version of the original image.

Often the first water fall visitors to Yosemite Valley see, Bridalveil Falls drops 620 feet from a U-shaped hanging valley. Once just a stream flowing down a valley until glacial activity carved away Yosemite Valley leaving this 'valley that falls off a cliff.' Bridalveil Falls flows all year transforming from a thunderous torrent in the spring to a light swaying flow later in the season.
