Wapama Footbridge Flows

Wapama Footbridge Flows

"It [Wapama Fall] is the counterpart of the Yosemite Fall, but has a much greater volume of water, is about 1700 feet in height, and appears to be nearly vertical, though considerably inclined, and is dashed into huge outbounding bosses of foam on projecting shelves and knobs." ~ John Muir

Crossing the Wapama Falls Footbridge in the Hetch Hetchy Wilderness of Yosemite National Park. Just one week prior to my arrival here, two hikers were swept off this same bridge to their death by raging and rising waters from unseasonable high flows from snow melts. While the waters had receded to some degree over a week’s time, it was still risky, as the sign I just passed indicated.
