For Whom The Pale Moon Gleams

For Whom The Pale Moon Gleams

“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dream. Wandering by lone sea breakers, and sitting by desolate streams. World losers and world forsakers, for whom the pale moon gleams. Yet we are movers and the shakers of the world forever it seems.” ~ Arthur William Edgar O'Shaughnessy

My backlog of images to edit and process is quite extensive, going back with some shoots almost two years, so it is occasionally nice to get away from current projects and think about the past and how to improve for the future. As I prepare and plan for 2012, I wanted to make sure to plan that I once again make my yearly migration to visit with my buzzard friends as they too make their migration. With that in mind, I found myself digging up last year's gathering and realizing I never worked any of those images yet.

This particular image was conceptualized by me quite easily, although the execution was an exercise in great patience...but thankfully I took a page from the book-of-buzzards and swallowed my patience pill, till the moon finally moved into the right position and the vulture read my mind. However, the image in post-production proved to be a bit of a disappointment, so I moved onto other projects. Mostly the problem was the extreme range in the image between light and dark and finding a balance that expressed the feeling of that moment. Now, nearly a year later and armed with new tools, I have come back to this image and remastered it in HDR to allow me to finally realize the moment as I saw it. Does it look HDR? I hope you think that it doesn't.

Coming this March - "Welcome Back Buzzards - 2012"
