Arizona Black-tail Rattlesnake
Photographed while doing a hike through the Sierra Ancha Wilderness, on my way to Pueblo Canyon cliff-ruins. The stillness of air though a narrow path of thick Manzanita, suddenly got very loud with the sound of this Arizona Black-tail Rattlesnake warning me that he was in the area. After digging through the manzanita bushes for five minutes, where the sound was most intense, I was about to give up looking, but then suddenly there he was...about two feet away, at my feet the entire time. This kind of habitat makes them very difficult to see, even though you can hear the danger.
