Tired Dominance
While floating down The Colorado River through The Grand Canyon, I had the great fortune to watch a small herd of Desert Big Horn Sheep near the shore-line. The herd consisted of about 2 Rams, 4 Ewes, and 5 lambs. During my observation, I witnessed the early beginning of the breeding season.
This dominate ram had his work cut out for him as the herd of ewes had spread thin over this area, while other ram suitors worked for their chances at breeding. While coming to defend a nearby ewe from a younger would-be suitor, this dominate ram runs across the scene to challenge and make things right.
