Wonders Of The World And Myself

Wonders Of The World And Myself

“Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.” ~ Saint Augustin

With every multi-day trek I plan into the remote wilderness, especially one I have not known before, I am always initially lured by the wander-lust of the trek, coupled by the wonder-lust of what I will discover out there. Initially it is an external wondering of what I will find; but once there in the moments of the effort, the wondering always turns inward as I negotiate the terrain and my own self's experience of the adversity's trial. Why? Because I always discover new truths about myself in the face of such adversity. I keep thanking the mountain again for each experience to know myself better, and then I continue up the trail.
