While hiking into Shinumo Canyon, of the Grand Canyon, near the Colorado River, I stopped in awe of this rock-walled scene near the trail. There was no question I had to photograph it and satisfy what my eyes observed in the moment. As the rest of my photography friends passed by, no one stopped to take a picture and one even asked me what it was I saw that held my attention so much. I explained to the other photographer what it was about this abstract that I saw and described how I was framing the scene. Satisfied with my answer, they all continued moving on leaving the scene for just me. In hindsight, maybe I was never observing the stones, but instead observing the effects of the stone on myself.
