Roaring and Plundering

Roaring and Plundering

"Wapama in a jagged, shadowy gorge roaring and plundering, pounding its way like an earthquake avalanche." ~ John Muir

As Hetch Hetchy's counterpart of Yosemite Valley's Yosemite Fall, Wapama Fall has a much greater volume of water and is about 1700 feet in height. It appears to be nearly vertical from across the reservoir, miles away, though considerably inclined once you get to it. The torrential roar as the water crashes through all the boulders makes it impossible to carry on a conversation with someone standing next to you, which would have been more helpful later on when someone else was trying to warn me of an approaching bear behind me!
