Nature Is Pleased With Simplicity
Simple forms, subtle textures and pleasing hues frame the juxtaposed tranquility of this scene, as smoothed water flows with cloudy reflection over the black-pebbled and glacial-ice-littered beach near Jökulsárlón (translated as "glacial river lagoon"). The nearby lagoon fills up with calved chunks of glacial ice, until strong river currents push them, and nearby ocean tides draw them, out to sea. Once in the ocean, the churning surf crashes them into each other, breaking them down into smaller pieces, which the waves can then more easily deposit on the nearby beaches. As Sir Isaac Newton said, “Nature is pleased with simplicity”, and I was happy to comply.
